My very first modification to my Dak was a K&N factory replacement air filter. This "modest" $50 modification has since opened the door to about $2000 worth of mods (don't tell my wife!!!).

Since my Dak lost her "virginity" with the insertion of the K&N filter, I have added a 3" exhaust system, headers, thermostat, upgraded TB, Jet Chip, Underdrive pulley, Bosch 4s, and maybe some other stuff I can't even remember....

My question is this. Is there a noticable performance difference between a K&N "drop in" factory replacement filter and a FIPK?

The FIPK costs about $250.00. This sounds like a lot of money for an air hat, tube and filter. I'm wondering if this amount of money might be better spent on an MSD ignition (box and wires) or applied to roller rockers or a cam or nitros or ?????.

Has anyone gone from the K&N factory replacement to the FIPK? Did you notice a difference (other than the decrease in your bank balance)?

How about opinions on the K&N system versus the Volant or the Air raid systems?

I'm even toying with the idea of going with a Shaker hood. Its only a thousand dollars.

Oh my gosh, I must be losing my mind. Help quick......

Personally, I like the shaker setup! I ran the Intense Performance Stage II w/ 9" big mouth filter for the first couple of thousand miles and then went to the shaker w/ 14" round K&N element and Xstream filter top. I "thought" the shaker performed better. This past weekend I removed the shaker hood, temporarily until Proglass can make me a taller airbox to compensate for my 3" body lift, and went back to the IP intake. Throttle response was much more "feelable" with the shaker. Can't wait to get 'er back on now. No knocking the IP setup (it's gotta beat a drop in filter and probably performs nearly the same as K&N's setup), but the shaker performs better on my truck.

there is going to be a difference between a drop in and a full intake set up. but the difference between brands is hardly noticeable. i have the intese performance stage II and i love it. v6 though. go with the shaker. it's just bad a$$ in general.

Yeah - The Shaker is really cool. Blizzard is the one who really got me interested in it. Go look at his web site (see his previous post for address). He has great photos of his hood and paint job.

Thanks for the feed back.
