Josh,
I truly believe that before you do anything you should install an air intake system and free-flow exhaust. As a matter of fact, you are very limited as to what you can do until you install an intake and exhaust.

I also own a 4.7, reg. cab., 5-spd, and i will say that it was difficult at first to even find an intake unit for this truck...K&N does not yet make one. However, i bought one from a manufacturer called Evergreen...Airaid is the name of the intake system. So for about $140.00 you can buy one from truckperformance.com. This site says that it gives you 8-10 horsepower...but it is actually dyno-tested to give the 4.7 11 more horses at the wheel.

As for the exhaust...there are a few good choices. I personally have a Flowmaster series 40 exhaust...which is supposed to actually give you about a 5% horsepower gain.
-Hope I have helped...good luck, and have fun.

As for exhaust, dyno tests are showing more horsepower gain from a single 3" cat back system such as Gibson or Flowmaster. They are only adding about 1-2 hp on the dyno. Custom dual systems are showing an actual loss in power. This engine relies on backpressure so you have to be careful. I personally run the Flowmaster 3" catback. It uses a 50 series muffler, isn't too loud, and sounds great.

As for air intakes, you actually have several choices. The Airaid is okay but it still uses the factory air hat which has several baffles and chambers to quite it but also restricts air flow. The K&N should be out in late October. It will be a very nice system but still places the filter under the hood. The Volant is almost identical to the K&N. All of the systems use a little shield to supposedly keep heat out. The little shield helps but doesn't keep the air near as cool as placing the filter outside the engine compartment. There is also a company called Intense Performance that sells the Z-Tube. All this is is a metal tube that places the filter right next to the engine with no heat shield. All of these manufacturers call their systems "cold air". None of these are actually true cold air. Even the little Rice Burner people know that much. The "rice" companies make regular air intakes and cold air intakes that actually place the filter outside the engine compartment. That is why we decided to build a true cold air system for the 4.7. So far it is still in the testing stage. Results have shown a 1-2 mpg increase so far. We dont have any track times or dyno runs that I can post currently but we are seeing excellent gains. We are hoping to have it complete by mid October. Check out the link below.

BEST BET IS TO HAVE YOUR STOCK COMPUTER REFLASHED BY A HI TECH SPEED SHOP SUCH AS KENNE BELL OR HYTECH PERFORMANCE IN PHOENIX AS DODGE HAS REALLY DETUNED THE FACTORY SETTINGS. THE BEST AIR INTAKE IS COLD AIR AND THE BEST BET IS A RAM AIR HOOD ESPECIALLY THE SHAKER HOOD FROM PROGLASS. I HAVE SEEN GUYS ON THE STREET WHO HAVE MADE THEIR OWN GOING THROUGH THE RIGHT INNER FENDER AND OUT UNDER THE FRONT BUMPER USING THREE INCH PIPE. I AM QUITE HAPPY WITH MBRP'S CAT BACK DUAL CUDA EXHAUST. BUT THE REAL POWER IS WITH A SUPER CHARGER......
