Just had a cold air intake made at a local muffler shop shop in TO today. He did a great job (www.noyzboyz.com didn't see the girls tho) strongly recommended and a good price. Any one have any good clean looking designs for the box to block the heat from the fan/engine.

Do you mean that the filter is boxed in like the Volant intake? There are all kinds of chrome billet add-ons for engine dress up that might look good. How much did it run you, and is it polished steel? I just ordered one from Quick D great price, looks good.

Wow, great deal! The K&N runs from $440-$460 here. I ordered a custom one from California, will cost about $260 Cnd. Don't know about the shield - I've seen pics of pretty fancy chrome engine dress-ups, and I've seen them painted to match the truck. It wouldn't bother me to just leave it flat black unless I was going to fancy up the rest of the engine compartment (which I'm not). Whereabouts on the Danforth is Noyzboyz? I used to live in Toronto in the 80s.

It's on the corner of Danforth and Kenedy in Scarborough. It's polished so nice and shinny for now anyways. I was not trying to dress the engine up anways. I was going to make one out of a PVC like other guys do until I heard a horror story
a couple of weeks ago. This guy with a home made job is crusen on the 400 (North of Toronto)doing about 140 km on a hot summer day when he starts to smell something funny. Thinking it's some one else in traffic he kept crusing until the truck started to really bog down. He pulls over pops the hood and he's got melted pvc all over his engine. When the pipe hit the engine it melted faster and with him giving more gas trying to keep going he sucked some plastic into throttle body. Now thats something I can live with out and why I spent the extra cash.

Yikes!!! That's one of the reasons why I decided to get polished steel too, but I was also concerned with it cracking in the winter and pieces being inhaled into the engine.

here is a great site that explains really well how one guy made a heat shield:

I just made one of ABS plastic, so far its ok, cost me about $90 canadian (girl at Canadian Tire put in the wrong code for the Fernco elbow, got it for 99 cents!!) Did you use the K&N filter RC 2530? I live right near Danforth and Kennedy, might look into getting a metal one fabricated.

I misunderstood your first post Rob, thought you wanted to jazz up your existing heat shield.
Are you sure you need one? Depending on the placement of the filter, you may not.
Here's a pic of the one I ordered:

The filter is far enough away from the engine heat to not need shielding.
Good deal on the elbows Moe-z! How does it perform?

Moe-Z check him out you won't regret it. I do think I could use the box a)Better perfomance since the fan is pushing hot air at the filter and b) I think the fan will blow some dirt at the filter reducing air intake and shorten the time between cleanings. It still look new with only a week being on the truck but I have only done light city driving lately. The truck is starting to show better take offs I guess another tank or to for the computer to adjust.
