Subject: Anyone try Rhino Mufflers on their Dakota???
IP: Logged

Message:
I have a 2000 Dakota CC 4X4. I'm looking into getting an exhaust system for my truck. I would like to know if anyone tried Rhino Mufflers out? And if they liked them? I'm looking for a 69 muscle car sound, when punching the gas. And of course no droning sounds at highway speeds.

What else do you guys recommend? I want a cat-back system with dual exhaust exiting behind the rear tires or out the back.

I would like your thoughts on Gibsons, Mopar and Flowmasters exhaust.

Any help will be great.
Thanks

Anthony--Dynomax makes Mopar exhaust parts, they used Dynomax on the Factory 98 & 99 R/T.I used new 2000 R/T parts on my 4.7L and it sounds great and bolts on and will last a long time.DC makes there on exhaust for 2000.

Hey Bob, thanks for the response.

I never knew that the R/T exhaust would mount to the 4.7 exhaust. I thought it would have a slight difference in piping and not connect properly. What type of piping is it? alum or stainless steel.

Thanks

Take this for what's it's worth:

I spoke with a few people on the R/T list and yes...the Dynomax UltraFlow mufflers came stock on the '98-'99 R/T's. However, they're not the same grade as the aftermarket UltraFlows and are made for Dodge to their specs...not Dynomax specs.

"Yes, they are Dynomax Ultraflow mufflers, but a wimpy one (left to ride offset, with packing, and a tube that runs between the the inlet/outlet diagonally)...The stock piping doesn't run a true
3" throughout either. "

Anthony it is stainless. The 2000 R/T muffler is straight through...you can look right thought it.Yes it is 2 1/2 ins. I didn't want 3in ,I didn't want to lose any bottom end,I figured it works fine on the bigger 360,than it would work better on my 4.7L.It is louder than the stock muffler, but does not have that very load hum at 65 mph...if it is loud, don't always mean it is fast.Different storks for different folks.HeHe

I have a 2 chamber flowmaster on my '99 5.2 with double tailpipes out the back. I love the old muscle car sound (50+ is not my real name. It is my age. I owned muscle cars including a '70 Challenger 340) but it does resonate at 65 M.P.H. My son has a '99 R/T and the stock exhaust is quieter than mine but sounds good and don't resonate noticably at highway speeds.

I put a Magnaflow exhaust on my 318 dak. It is similar to a gibson, it is a straight through, kinda like a glass pack. It is relatively quieter than a flowmaster, and gives good performance. I have a single inlet, dual outlet, straight out the back.

All of my V8's get 2 chamber flowmasters on day one.

It's the best sounding muffler for a V8.

I ran the Flowmaster 40's for a while - real loud with a tin can (kinda cool) sound. Rumbled. It didnt take look before both mufflers to vibrate internally and that was annoying.
I replaced them with dynamax. They have a deeper, not so loud sound unless you stomp on the pedal. Dynamax doesnt rumble as bad either. They have, by far, outlasted my flowmasters.
