Subject: Problem Installing 180 Thermostat
IP: Logged

Message:
Just took my truck in to mechanic to have new air intake, autolite 3923's, and 180 Robertshaw thermostat installed. I have a 2000 with 4.7v8 engine. When he tried to install the thermostat, he said that it would not fit; something about it was not notched correctly and would not align properly. The thermostat model number was a GT755-180, which is what everyone else has been referencing. Any ideas what he did or did not do?

Yeah I had the same concern when I out mine in. I just took the stock white gasket deal and put it in anyways. It works fine. I was nervous though at first.

That's the same part number on the thermostat I got from Speedtweaks. When I was talking to the mechanic I told him that it was the same part everyone else had been using. He is a very good mechanic and I have been using him for years.

Right now I'm wondering if I should go somewhere else and try to have it installed or just scrap the idea of installing it. Not sure how much difference the 180 stat would make.

The "stock" stat does have a notch cut in it for the rubber gasket. I took the RobertShaw stat and cut a notch in it with my Dremel tool, then it work easier with the rubber gasket.
