I had a 73 Montego, no options other than am radio. I would put it against anything on the road.On the air cleaner it said " over 300 hp ". It was equiped with a 4 speed and Hurst shifter. It was a 4 door car I purchased from a local news paper company owner. It had sit in tha parking lot for years, covered in dust and all rusted out. My brother-in-law was smoking and sitting on the car like everyone did. He just wiped the window one day and saw the 4 speed. He asked the owner if he would sell and got it for 500.00 cash. That car would not move in 1st, 2nd,3rd, and it would still be smoking for a second in 4th. Bog down and when I shifted to 3 again it would hold the front end straight up and scream...I have been in and owned some impressive cars, but nothing like this one. I would let 455 Firebirds get to my front door, pin it and leave them sitting...440's, 426 hemi's....NOTHING..could come close to it. Why I don't know..then I saw an article about some special build for that year and almost cried...this car I had was one of only a hand full and I sold it after I lost my license. I wish I had it back. Now I own a 63 Tempest LeMans, 65 chevelle and a 75 dart with only 9000 miles on it...that 351 rulled !!!
