Hey all.
I'm getting sick of messing around with my 3.9L 95 dakota. Sure I beat the crap out of most v8 camaros and the like but I still want more. I just bought a 5.2L from a 92 dak and am going to rebuild it as a project in my auto shop class. Should I do any internal engine work or should I just stick to bolt ons? What all is required for this swap? I think I'll need a new fan shroud, computer, and wiring harness but what else will I have to buy? can I use the same alternator, ps pump, ac compressor, starter etc? or will those have to be replaced? Thanks in advance. Geoff

Personally I would do as much internal engine work as I can (or can afford) before the swap. You can always add more bolt ons later. After all no matter how much power you got, after awhile you will want more.

Good Luck, and of course have fun :)

Forged pistons, coper head gaskets, port and polish heads, port and polish intake runners, beef up the oiling system to the heads, call crowler and get the best computer compatable cam for that engine. Debur that block, fillet the crank and drill additional oiling holes, gun drill the crank, knife edge it aswell. Get a lighter flywheel. Shot penn the rods. You might want to modify the stock pump to increase oil pressure. You know what I pet the mopar performane people might have a book on building up the 318 for serious high output use. Give them a call.
