 Subject: what TB to put on my 2001 3.9?

I was wanting to know what throttle body works best with my 3.9 dak. I will probably get one before Christmas, I have heard different things, but I also heard that a standard V8 conversion would work best, because larger ones would bogg my truck down and lose low end torque.

I put a FLowmetrics 48mm TB on my 2000 3.9. It works really well. I used to experience a slight bog coming off idle, but I turned the idle screw up till the truck idles at about 750 RPM when hot. That took care of the bog. Otherwise, the only problem I had was a loose screw in the linkage, I took it out and locktighted it back in, no more problems.

Go with the 50mm tb if you plan on doing a lot more mods, 48 is good for minor mods. If you plan on supercharging get the 50mm.

The ONLY way you should put on a 50mm is if you already have a supercharger in place. DO NOT run your truck with a 50mm TB and no blower. Would bog down real bad. Probably would only run decent at wide open throttle.

Hey thanks guys, I'm deciding on getting either a stock 48mm conversion from Bernd or a 48mm Billet from speedtweaks(flowmetrics). Does anybody have any coments on either of the two? If so please reply, Thanks.

I like my 48mm but I wish I didn't pay $390 for it. I heard the Flometrics made 2HP's and 12 lbs. per foot more than the stock 5.2 TB. Since budget should come to mind, I wish I got the V8 TB for $1??-$2??.

The stock V8 TB will kill your torque. You need either a Flometrics 48mm or the Fastman TB ($250)

Lose bottom-end whatever, if you do not compensate for allowing your engine to breath better, you will lose torque. I ran a V8tb on my 97 dakota for several months with very little loss of bottom-end. I had several other mods to compensate for example MSD ignition, 8.5mm wires, blaster SS coil, Jet 2 module, 180 degree thermostat, and nothing less than 92 octane. As for allowing my truck to breath I also installed JBA headers, cold air intake, & a 3" single outlet K&N exhaust system. My truck was pretty darn bad a$$.
I would of never considered getting rid of my V6 until I had the opportunity to get a RT dakota for a great price.
As for your question mr. balls about $200.

The stock V8 has bigger bores which would allow more flow, yes, but a ported TB will flow better allowing a higher air velocity. Stock will work, ported is better. Just a budget thing I guess. You could buy the stock and port it yourself. The only ported 48mm is the Flometrics. Fastman only makes a 46, 50+.
