Yo Matt and Bernd!
I need some schoolin'! I have a 2001 SLT RC 4.7 5sp 3.92. I'm gonna get a TB soon and getting info on the new TB's for a 2001 4.7 is scarce. The Flometrics 70mm looks better and has that 4" inlet on the stack. But the fastman has a 71mm opening an is $190 cheaper. I'M SO CONFUSED!! This is the first real mod I'm doing so I just want to make sure I'm doing the right thing.

Do you have to do a core trade with the fastman? That could be the reason it is cheaper. You may want to check that out.

Hey Matt and Bernd!
The fastman at www.thefastman.com has a few pics of the modified TB. Anyways, I'd really like to know what you guys think. Your opions towards mods are the only ones I give much creedance to. So before laying down some serious cashish, I'd like to feel comfortable with my purchase.

Thanks for the comment on my site. The 4.7 intake is quite a bit different than the on for the 5.2 & 5.9. This is a true cold air system that places the filter outside the engine compartment. It will be CNC bent out of a solid piece of aluminum. I will post pics on my site tomorrow night so check back.

IAC = Intake Air Control
To be perfectly honest. I don't know how it works. I just know how to clean it, replace it, and play with it.

Cyberwolf,
Which system are you refereing to for the "cold air". Do you have pictures. Need site address!!
I am lloking for a true "cold air" intake.

Have new 2001, 4.7 Mag Quad Cab. Only modification is Magnaflow cat-back to original single tailpipe.

Next mods are plugs and thermostat.

Dr. Q, My recommendation would be, do not mess with a factory modified unit, unless you can compare flow numbers. A factory TB unit is not the best piece to modify because it has limited material to create a Large entry radius. Just like a velocity stack on a carb engine, a large entry diameter which transitions into a smaller plate diameter, whether it be 69, 70, 71mm, and a gentle, smooth, but broad entry radius will increase flow dramatically, while still maintaining good velocity. I'm not saying the Fastman TB is Good, Bad, or ugly, I'd need to see some flow data. I've had the stock and modified 65, and 68 TB's benchflowed, and compared the data. I've also tested a 65, &68 mm modified TB from Hughes, and the 69mm TB from F&B. Hands down, the F&B TB is MUCH better, from every angle, performance, HP & TQ, and it looks alot better too!!
The price difference is important, especially if you're like me and have limited funds for your ride!! Your first step would be to compare flow numbers from all the TB's before making a decision. You would'nt buy a Carburetor without knowing the CFM right??? Then weigh the price against the flow numbers. See if you can get flow numbers from Fastman? Below are numbers I have compiled for Stock TB's, and Modified TB's from Hughes Engines. I have a 68mm TB that looks identical to the fastman TB, mine came from Hughes Engines, he normally charges about 150 plus a core:
65mm TB (Stock) 632cfm
65mm TB (Stage I) 711cfm (12.5% increase over stock 65mm)
68mm TB (Stock) 664cfm (5% increase over stock 65mm)
68mm TB (Stage I) 760cfm (17% over stock 65mm AND 13% over Stock
68mm)

Again, this is just my opinion. You're doing the best thing you can do right now, and thats get lots of opinions from people who have been down that road already, you'll make the best decision in the end. Good Luck
