I have a 2001 dakota r/c it has the 4.7, my first question is how do I know if I have an LSD or not and will a 2.5 inch cat exhaust with a 40 series flowmaster make me lose power?

Rock,

Jack up the back end of the vehicle and put it in neutral. Rotate one tire. If the opposite tire rotates in the same direction, you have an LSD. If the tire rotates in the opposite direction, you have an open differential. I don't have a clue on the exhaust.

As far as the LSD, I'll bet there is a code in the VIN that will tell you. I don't know for sure though. As far as the flowmaster, my understanding is you will see an increase with the setup you mention. The biggest increases have come with a single 3" catback. I put the Flowmaster Force II on my 5.2 and saw a definite increase in performance.

If you look in the glove box or possibly under the hood there should be a label saying limited slip differential if you have one. If it doesn't specify a LSD, you have an open axle truck. I had a '99 and currently have a 2000 Dakota and the label for both was in the glove box. I know some Ram's have them under the hood, though. The label under the hood is on the bottom side of the hood itself. Let me know if you find it.

Hey, thanks guys, appreciate the useful info. I'll check out the glove box and we'll see in 2 days if the exhaust works.
