Subject: Head work worthwhile on a V6?
IP: Logged

Message:
Has anyone had their heads done (ported, polished, valve job) on a V6? Any numbers as far as dyno or quarter mile gains? Was it worth the price over other mods?

TIA.

krcperformance.net only charges $300 for port, polish exhaust chamber, valve job, etc. There is alot of power to be had by working heads on any vehicle. The old saying "only as strong as it's weakest link" applies here. Big TB, headers, etc., but if the heads in the middle are stock, the engine will only pump through as much air as the heads can handle. dodgeboy93 on Moparchat.com is in the process of having his done. Bernd is having his done sometime soon I think. I will be eventually but not yet. I only have Airaid and exhaust!

Thanks cbsdakota. How do you think something like this would compare with a supercharger, besides being a fraction of the price? About half the increase? I can only guess, so I suppose I'm looking for something of a comparison. If a SC gives around 40% more, would headwork give around 20%? Also, would bigger injectors be a good idea afterward?

I asked all the same questions when I first got on here so I'm going by what I have been told, not by personal experience. I can't give you figures on the heads but Bernd I'm sure will when he gets his done. A supercharger would definately be a much greater increase than anything else. If you have a cold air intake, throttle body, maybe a manifold, headers and exhaust, then I would go with the heads + cam + roller rockers next. At that point you will have no bottlenecks in the engine and you would get the absolute best from your supercharger. For a normally aspirated engine, Ford Motor Sports 19# High Flow fuel injectors work great. (19# is the stock rating for your injectors but the FMS ones flow better and are more accurate.) 24# injectors are only needed with a supercharger. If you plan on a supercharger, wait on the injectors and possibly the cam unless the cam maker tells you it will suit a supercharged vehicle. The stock cam is actually supposed to be pretty good for a supercharger because it's made for real low end torque, but you won't get the revs you might want.
