Subject: Wiring Switch to Elec Fan?
IP: Logged

Message:
Hi, I would like to wire a on/off switch to my electic fan so that I can have it running when I'm awaiting my run in the staging lanes at the drag strip. I have no idea about the wiring part though... Can anyone help? THANKS!

It'd be as simple as this:

Cut the non-ground wire going to the fan
Have that wire go to a switch
have the other side of the switch go to the 12V line

However what I would recommend would be to use a DPST switch with center off, and have the other side go to the wire you just cut and put a fuse inline with the 12V. This would allow normal operation, off, and on states.

I traced the large green wire from the fan and relocated it at the bundle entering the fuse block. It was the largest light green wire in the bundle. I simply piggy backed with solder another 12V lead with a an inline fuse and switch on to it so it doesn't interupt the normal circuit.
