Is anyone using the Flex-a-Lite Black Magic Fan, #150 on a 5.2 or 5.9 V8 with success? I have tried a couple of other fans without success but would like to know if I should take one more shot with this premium electric fan. This fan has no trouble cooling a V6, but I would like to know if it will handle the heat and humidity with the a/c working in the South, (Atlanta).
Thanks for any information.

I also live in Georgia, south of Atlanta. I have installed flex-a-lite's blackmagic fan on my 1998 dakota 318 5-speed. It ran about 210 w/ac on and idleling so i bought a cheap 12 in. electric fan from Advance and installed as a puller between condensor and radiator. Now it has no problem maintaining 190-200 w/ac on high and idleling, plus ac cools alot better w/fan against condensor.

Chris, I considered the same thing. Thank you so much for the feedback, that really helps me. I am going to order a Black Magic. Is your "cheapie" an Imperial?

I have a Black Magic fan on my Dak as its primary fan but I also have a tranny cooler mounted to the radiator support with another 10" fan just for it(so the tranny fluid no longer cools through the radiator). I have never had any problems overheating in the MO summers or now the SC summers, never going over 200 in fact(with a 160 thermostat) and I have multiple hop-ups to the 360 that's in the truck such as heads, cam, etc, etc.

Blkbird,
I have the towing package on my Dak and the tranny cooler is located between the a/c condenser and the radiator. I would have to relocate the tranny cooler to do that and do not know where the heck I might put that. I am considering Chris's suggestion of an extra fan between the a/c condenser and the radiator. I have done this once, to help the main fan I had before, but it was not enough with those two to still keep things from overheating so I removed it. Getting the weight off the water pump adds so much hp and torque, as well as gas mileage, that I may even consider three fans, adding a pusher to the front.
Thanks for your information on this.

Rascal,
yes the cheapie fan is a imperial fan. the blackmagic fan has a manual switch lead that puts out 12v when fan is running, so hook up was pretty easy.

Rascal: I got mine at Summit Racing. They were the cheapest place I found(though its been awhile, so I dont remember what I paid) I guess for once Im lucky I did'nt have an option(ie. the towing package) my trucks about as bare bones as you can get(other than the 318...which has been replaced with a 360)

Ordered the Black Magic today from Summit, thanks. I will also pick up a small hayden or imperial to slip between the condenser and radiator too, just trying to make sure things stay cool.
I paid $185 today, but it will be well worth it. Even while I had the inferior fans on it before, my gas mileage went up to 18.5 highway with the a/c going..as opposed to 16.2 with the clutch fan. It also has much quicker throttle response.
