Does anyone know an easy way to remove the heat shields around plugs and how well are they pressed in?

They are very easy to remove. Taks a pair of pliers and grab it next to the split in it and twit towards the split and pull out... the only down part to is that you destroy it. sometimes they are rusted in so you might have to spray it with WD-40. Why do you want to remove them? They protect the spark wires from melting.

Thanks for the removal info.I want to remove them because of the dirt that collects around the plugs when you dont run stock wires and they look like a tight fit with the headers I just bought. I have no fear when it comes to heat,I run ACCEL EXTREME 9000 wires. I like the wires they are well made and take abuse, just stay away from the cheap yellow ones. http://www.mrgasket.com/ftp/pdf/Wires.pdf

Actually you should be able to just grab them with the pliers and pull them out without destroying them, mine are fine...they havent been on my truck so long though I dont remember where they are! Keep an eye on those wires, a freind of mine had them on his LT1 and the arced to anything around them. It was a pretty cool show at night though.

You will have to remove some of those heat sheilds in order to tighten several of the header bolts. They are in the way when you have to SLOWLY tighten the hard-to-get-to bolts an 1/8 of a turn at a time with an open end wrench. The heat shields are easy to re install. Just tap them back in place with a peen hammer. A dull punch helps in the tight spots.
