 Subject: Gen II or Gen III faster??

I have heard that the Gen II dakotas are faster than the Gen III with the same motor, because they are lighter. Is this the case??
Reason for my asking is I raced a gen II awhile back that was lowered with rims, intake, exhaust and headers(this is all he said he had), he was also a 5 speed. I have a Gen III auto and at the time just had exhaust and we were dead even. We both have the 3.9L V-6.

He must not be much of a driver. The GenII models are 300 lbs lighter and with a stick he should have beaten you fairly easy (with all other things being equal)

I don't know how good of a driver he was but form sitting next to him it didn't seem like he was shifting bad or early for that matter.

Why is everyone trying to fix up thier 3.9's? Why not go buy a Honda.
Funny thing is, some Hondas will blow the doors off even my truck!

Was the one you ran a V-8? I bet the fastest Dakota ever factory stock would be a 94 or 95 RC 5.2/5-speed/3.92LS. One thing though, they didn't get near as wide a tire from the factory back then as they do now (215 vs 255). The 93 model 5.2 actually had a little more HP but you couldn't get a 5-speed with the V-8 that year.

318magnum whats your problem we all drive dakotas and are trying to get better performance out of them. Take whatever your problem is out on a chevy or ford or something.
