Who says I can't. I was just inquiring about if it was worth it to have a shop do it instead. I have no idea if I can or can not yet, I havn't ever tried.

Xplikt,
Sounds to me that you can't.And why would you go from 3.92 to a 4.10 you wouldn't tell any diffrence.Go with something in the 5's.Then you will see a diffrene.

I'm going to the 4.56s. That's the highest gear ratio I can fit in my carrier.

Xplikt,
The larger the number the lower the gear is 4.56's are lower than 3.92's.

BRANDON, you're right, but it's still a higher ratio.

That's the highest gear ratio I can fit in my carrier.

Could also be written.

That's the lowest gear I can fit in my carrier.

I drive a 4.6 F150XLT. I was thinking of getting a Dakota (they are nice trucks, but I couldnt' find one for the price I wanted to pay) but ended up getting my F150 and it is a very nice truck. My dad owns a Dodge Ram 1500 with a 5.2L engine and it's also a nice truck. What I like about my F150 over his Dodge is the sharper steering on mine, and the Ford has better fuel economy. What I like about my dad's Dodge is how big it feels on the road. If you drive a bit on the shouldar of the highway in a Dodge Ram you *know* you'll be taking out someone's headlights and windshield with the rock spray. :) I can't say I like how Dodge is going with the styling of the RAM though. I liked it before they started with the retro front end, it just looked more badass to me.

The Dodge is also a very comfortable ride on long trips.

I haven't had any experience with Chev/GMC pickups, but what I've heard is they offer the most comfortable ride, have a lot of neat features, but break down frequently.

Hemi's are cool. But it isn't like the old 426 Hemi's grow on trees like Ford 5.0's do.
And it doesn't take $15k to make a 5.0 fast.
I had $1k in a daily driver 5.0 that could do 12's easy.
They are dirt cheap to make fast.
and fast is fun!
$10k in a 5.0 Mustang would do under 10 seconds.

Anyway, you shouldn't pick on your fellow Domestic hot rodders.

It's the people dumping $30k into FWD Ricers just to get under 12 seconds that I think is very stupid.

whew finally finished reading this post and now I will add my 2 cents worth... well okay about 1 1/2 cents cause I am from Toronto.

I have just ordered (last Friday) a 2003 CC R/T and yes I am sure like many of us on this board many things out there on the street will be faster.

Back in 1981 I purchased a "NEW" Trans Am with all the goodies and the highest factory HP of 205 out of the 301 Cubic inch pontiac block which incidentally was turbo charged directly from the factory. 15 years later with a small block chevy installed I was running 12.5 at the strip!

I find it hard to believe anyone here would cut-up the R/T stock performance.
Yet all we here is 4.7 this compared to 5.9 that.

GET OVER IT!

There both DODGE products!

Let's all be happy with what we have. I'm sure my R/T when it arrives will put a giant smile on my face as I have wanted one for a few years.
I'm also certain that in a year or two I will spend some bucks and make it quicker.

I'm sure for those of you out there with a 4.7 based Dakota.. that is what you preferred. Not all us want an R/T not all want the 4.7 based motor.... different strokes for different folks.

We can argue about who is quicker to no end as there is no end!
Just ask John Force there is always someone out there putting up a better number just how much do you want to spend to beat him?

For me i'll be happy with whatever my stock R/T can muster...and maybe somewhere down the road a few mods will be added... who knows.

Don't worry be happy! :)

Except both engines are not BOTH DODGE.

The good old 360 is. The 4.7 is Mercedes built.
I don't know if that is bad or not. But, look how much harder they have been so far to get GOOD mods.

Anybody will sell you a worthless throttle body spacer or a intake tube. But doing REAL engine mods to a 4.7 will never be the same as getting them for the 5.9.
