Subject: Question about Cold Air Intakes
IP: Logged

Message:
What is the meaning of installing a cold air intake if the element is going to be open at the top of it?
I mean... the K&N elements have a hole at the top end? Why is that? Isn't it bad for the engin when dust and debri don't even get filtered?

What hole? I have two intake systems in my garage: K&N Gen-II and a standard 3" Intake Tube. Neither one has the hole on the top.

If you're referring to the breather tube on the side of the airhat, that connects to your factory breather tube.

Still don't quite understand what hole you're referring to. (Sorry)

Do you have a P/N# on this?

No i don't have the part # but look here. the element, put it upright and you have the bottom hole that attaches to the intake tube, Right?
The top now! from what i can see from pictures, it looks like the top of the cone is open! or is it just me.

No offense...it's just you.

The filter is closed at the "top" with a plastic cap. The other end is obviously open because it mates with the intake tube.

Kitkat, I know what you are talking about. Some cone filters appear to be open at both ends, but you will see if you look at it the end opposite the open end is filtered also. Go into a local paarts store and ak to look at a cone filter, this will give a good Idea of what I mean. Jim m
