Just installed a split rear gibson on my 01 dak (3.9). What a great buy, just enough noise to let you know im there but still able to talk in the cab.

Easy to install - i recomend it anyone.

How well did the system line up (tips straight, and evenly spaced)? and is there any way you can get me a wav file of what it sounds like on your v6, ive been contemplating getting a gibson but i wanted to hear one on a v6 first. does it sound like a rice burner when you get on it (3500 rpms and up)? also is there a good deep tone at idle ( i know i cant expect a v6 to sound as good as a v8 but i would like it too) and not a lot of cab resonance?
sorry for the long post

That's great news, Bert! Been toying with the idea of getting just the muffler and swinging by a buddy's house to weld that baby in where the stock one is now. Kinda a cheap sound improvement, with exit relocation later. Now I'm gonna do it!

Hey Marc - After getting the stock exhasut off - i had to cut about 4inches of the pipe coming from the cat. After that it all went in great - i'll try to get a pic off it. Most sound come between 2000 and 2800 rpms. Its got a decent sound at idle and cab resonance is very little.

I put on the split rear - according to gibson's site its their quietest one. I think its just right.

I have a 3" Dynomax catback on my '00 V6 QC. The sound from idle to 3500rpms is great. The fact that the muffler is directly below the back seat in my QC gives the cab a noticable resonance. Since I put a set of JBA headers and an Airaid intake on the noise has gone down in the cab (or maybe I am just getting used to it)and the rumble out the back has gotten much deeper. Hope the Gibson works for you I just didn't like the sound from their exhaust kits. I had heard them on other cars.

Hey guys what's up? I just put on the gibson split rear exhaust on myy 99 dakota ext. cab v8 and it sounds great. To give it a little more aggresive look and sound I put on some borla intercool exhaust tips. When it sits at idle it sounds a little like it has headers but the sound doesn't compare to the sound of my 68 dart gts. But it sounds good for my every day driver. If anyone else out there with a dakota whose pondering what type of exhaust to put under there ride go with gibson it takes 1-1 1/2 hours to put on with a frinds help and it's the easiest exhaust to put on I did it in an hour and like the sound!

Hey i just put on my gibson split rear exhaust kit and it is hella tight. What a pain in the ass it was to get off the stock exhaust system. It made it even harder to get it off since my truck is really low to the ground. But it does make a difference in power and the dual is a lot louder. It hums at idle and when i am accelerating it is loud. Sounds like a 5.0 with my v6! I love it!

Hello,
I will admit that I don't own a Dakota pickup, but I do have a 99 Durango with a 5.2L in it. I have been strongly toying with the idea of installing a Gibson exhaust, but am afraid of the "obnoxiousness" that a flowmaster had on another vehicle. I have 2 little kids that ride in the vehicle regularly, an I am just looking for something with a low rumble that will help out with a little performance as well. Would you still recommend the Gibson for my truck, or should I check out someone else. Thanks for the help!!

I would recommend the gibson. I am actually starting my family soon and buying a gibson even sooner... so sound should not be an issue. I had one on my last dakota and loved it...

I PUT A GIBSON CAT BACK DUALS ON MY 97 LESS THAN 3 YEARS AGO. IT SOUNDS GREAT, ESPECIALLY AT 2000 RPM ON THE HIGHWAY.
LAST MONTH I HAD TO REPLACE IT BECUASE THE BACK OF THE MUFFLER ROTTED OFF AND MOST OF THE PIPE ROTTED LENGTHWISE DOWN THE SEAM.
IF YOUR GONNA DO IT, GET STAINLESS, NOT "ALUMINUMIZED"
