 Subject: 3.9L v-6 cold air intake

Hey everybody...
I recently bought a '97 dakota with the 3.9L V-6. Now I'm looking for a cold air intake for it. I've seen a Mopar one (yuck, waaaay too expensive) that supposedly will fit the 3.9L, as well as the 5.2L. According to the info, it was manufactured by K & N for Mopar performance. However, I can't find any sort of mention for a K & N gen II kit for the 3.9L on K & N's website. Does anybody know, will the K & N kit for the 5.2L work on the 3.9L? Or do they make a different kit for the 3.9L that is missing from their site? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The K&N will fit but it requires modification. Airaid makes a kit that includes a K&N filter. I got mine from truckperformance.com. If you have cruise, follow the instructions on how to move it forward a couple inches to clear the filter. The airaid kit instructions said this mod was for the 5.9 only but it holds true for the 3.9 as well.

Oh, the K&N unit is a TB hat and tube all in one. The Airaid utilizes the stock TB hat and the accordian style tube that comes off of it. This makes very little difference as far as airflow. I don't think you would even notice the difference. I love my Airaid.

Thanks for the info! I was also looking at the Airaid as another option. The use of the accordian style tube did have me a little concerned, but apparently my concerns were unfounded.

I'm going to replace the stock tube with a smooth tube from the hardware store just for the hell of it.

I have one of the Airaid units, and love it. There was a noticable difference with it installed, and the engine sounds better. Interestingly, I've had people ask if there is a supercharger in there, because at certian throttle positions it "whistles". Kinda cool really.
