I have a 97 RC 318 5 spd. Im looking at superchargers but they are expensive and can damage the engine. Im looking at the Magnum 380 or 300 crate motors. Has anyone put one in a dakota and hooked up fuel injection?? I would rather drop a fat 380 than supercharger. can anyone help me out pleaaaaaase??

I have not seen an injected verson of the 360 crate engine with 380 or 300 hp. BUT i have seen the 528 crate hemi with a fuel injection system on it and it was in a QC dakota with a 727 TF tranny. i guess if you can do that to a 528 i dont know why you couldent do it to a 360.

Tough one K.Flowmaster. I spoke with some Mopar Performance guys at Milan, MI. 2 years ago, and Factory style injection was a no go with the "lumpy" cam in the 380HP crate motor. I was inclined to believe them since they were racing a '98 Grand Cherokee with a 380 crate motor carburated, w/o headers.
I'm sure you could see close to 380 horse out of a custom built 360 with the factory injection, but MAP sensors don't like cams that only pull 12"Hg at 1000rpm (i.e. the 380 crate). If you want to go this route I would highly recommend consulting with Hughes.

Travis is right. The 110 lobe seration will not work well with the computer. When I was in your situation, I went to the Dodge dealer and ordered a 360 short block for $1600(a couple years ago), swapped out cams for a better one and had my 318 heads ported and polished. Oh, and installed a 360s PCM. I did a whole lot of other stuff too, but that's another story.

it is the same engine that they p[ut in all the trucks they use the same heads to just swap out the cam and intake and it will be good to go you can install a bigger cam than stock i dont know how much bigger plus a coupke of years ago you could get a 300 hp kit installed by the dealer in the dak r/t and it uses a map also

The intakes are the same. You can install any size cam you want if you have your heads done to accomodate it. The 300hp versions a joke. Little bitty baby cam in it.
