You're not going to get much from boring .030 over stock. And there used to be stroker kits available but I don't think anyone makes them anymore. I'm sure some cylinder head work would probably be the best route.

well i have a 95 and its time to trash it or build
it and i figured i would have to get the cyl honed
anyways i might as well make it a new motor as far
as i can. so what could i expect is what im trying
to get out of this because i like the truck and the
motor, so ill be keeping them and boring it out. new
motor... then cam, head work, and so on out. its not
my daily driver so i have time for it to sit and do
some work. and im not complete noob just as far as
actually doing it, i have the knowledge, thats it.

Depending on what year your truck is you'd probably be better off finding a 5.2 and putting a stroker in that. you can get 390 cubes out of those.

If you have to go the 3.9 route, I would bore it .030 over, do the headwork, port and polish. And up compression as much as possible. Probably about 10:1. And go carb using premium fuel only. Do away with the fuel injection because I don't think the PCM would be able to adapt. It would not be a daily driver. That's just my opinion.

Not a daily driver if you want that kind of power. A radical cam and high compression can get a little difficult to drive on the street. Low vacuum and a loping idle is not fun in traffic. Search for some Mopar performance vendors. One I've heard of but have seen some negative feedback on is Hughes Engines. I'm sure there are others.

your better off building a 5.2 or 5.9 dont waste your time on that sh!tty 3.9 but if thats all you can afford then you should get a 5.9 crank from the junk yard and cut the 2 extra rod journals and weld the crank sprocket on and bore the 3.9l block .30 over then you got a badass motor

What are the pro's and cons of gaining displacement using Bore vs. using Stroke? Does one produce more peak HP? Is one method easier on components?

What does Rod Ratio have to do with it?

somebody has done this before because i read a post on here that this guy did it and he got about 220 horsepower to the rear wheels. i was hoping he would respond since he is one of the few that successfully bored and stroked his 3.9l and got a 4.6l
