i am looking at the '01 Daks and i love them. the only thing is that i cannot afford to insure a V8, so im going to have to settle for the V6. I test-drove the V6, and it seemed really powerful. had alot of torque. i knwo the V8's are alot more powerful but the people on this board seem to make it sound like the V6 is totally pathetic. all i will actually be towing is a waverunner and possibly a (hopefully) 28' searay. and i mihgt go light offroad but that is about it. (which is more load than half of these guys put on their V8 4x4's) i geuss i want to hear some V6 sucess stories lol but seriously, any advise or ideas would be helpful. i am going to the dealer the 30th to pick up my baby. also, why the hell is it so expensive to add a CD palyer???

I have had my v6 for two years now, got her
new in 99! I live in western new York so we get
alot of snow. Well when friends get stuck who
do they call? Oh yeah my baby has pulled
more cars out of snow banks than you could
imagine. dont let the little V6 emblem fool you
she packs her own punch. Put a few add ons
with her like I have and youll be happy with it
for years(add ons or not).
Thanks!

Kurt,

When I bought my Dakota, I did the insurance shopping as well. I tooke quotes form several companies on one model to get a ball park figure. When I narrowed the field down to two companies, I asked them the difference to insure the V-8 over the V-6. They both asked me if with was the 360 and I told them it was the new smaller V-8. Both companies told me the V-8 and V-6 would cost the same to insure. Once I heard both cost the same to insure, I decided to buy the V-8. I you have not yet purchased your Dakota, I would recommend calling and asking the insurance company the difference in cost of insuring the V-8 over the V-6, unless you have already done so.

The companies were USAA and Progressive.

The V6 provides adequate power, I think. It seems to be matched VERY well to the regular-cab Sport I have, with the 5-speed and 3.55 gears. Although, I'd like some stiffer gears later. :0)

The auto seemed fine too, but if you can drive a stick, I'd recommend it, since you'll get a little more ooomph.
