The 500 will work if you get it built right and tough. Ive been running mine for two years.On the street, towing, and drag racing. Iam running a stroked 340 and i hammer it.

I think you're looking at 9. You can't count park as a gear. And neither is Overdrive a true gear.
Also it's really the ratios in the transfer case that makes the deference
I've heard you can buy a kit to split your 3 of your gears in your A500 or A518, so technically speaking you’re looking at a 6 speed with O/D.
