Subject: Octane Question for 05' 4.7L
IP: Logged

Message:
I have an 05' 4.7 Dakota and i recently installed a cold air intake and a cat back dual exhaust. I was wondering if i should still be using 87 octane, or with these slight mods be using something like 89 octane? or does it do nothing but waste money with no other benefit? please let me know only if you know what your talking about. :) thanks

Because you haven't done anything to change cam or ignition timing, or compression, you can stay with 87 octane.

Hey Dan W. Are you happy with the performance after your mods to the 05? Was thinking of doing the same and would like to know if it it's worth
the $. Also, is your 4.7 the magnum?

Yeah, its the 4.7. Is it worth it? that depends. a good cold air intake likely made the majority of better performance. If you like the deep low tone of the exhaust and have 6 or 700 bucks for it, go ahead. I dont think the exhaust adds much performance but sure looks purdy and sounds great! (magnaflow cat-back on mine). To be honest tho, I thought getting the intake and exhuast would have added a little more pep to it. But i still think its worth it. I love it so far. I was looking to boost the low end torque mainly; I'm learning now that switching the gear ratio from the 3.55 to 4.10 could help out quite a bit.

True,
However if you do alot of highway driving
You're not going to be happy. MPG's will suffer
