I've got an 02 R/T supercharged running 6 lbs boost. I've been told that in stock form it should have about 49 psi fuel pressure, but in my truck even at WOT it still hovers around 40 psi. How much performance is this costing me, and what's the best way to resolve this issue? This truck feels underpowered, and i think it's got to be involving the fuel system. To give you an idea of the kind of power it's producing right now, I just recently raced a friend's 2000 R/T, and won by maybe a car length up to 60 mph. My main mods includes Hedman headers, M1 2 bbl intake, R/T magnum heads, and 1.7 roller rockers.

I'm kinda baffled here, this should be a 13 second truck no problem, right now it feels like a 15 second truck. Cylinder compression is 155-160 all across the board so that shouldn't be an issue. I'm just looking for some insight right now from people who know alot more about these trucks than I do... Oh, and i have it all torn down right now, replacing the head gaskets... perhaps there's something I should check at this stage? Either way, sorry for the rambling, just looking for some help....

Thanks a bunch,
Kent

deinitely sounds like a fuel pressure/delivery problem. if stock should be around 49, boosted should have more than that. could be a regulator or pump problem. you may need to go aftermarket on those. too bad they're both in the tank. check with Kenne Bell and see if they can recommend anything for you.

Stock fuel pressure should be 49.2psi, +/-5psi. So, right away, you know you don't have enough pressure.

Fuel pressure is controlled by the pressure regulater. It's combined with the filter, and mounted on top of the fuel pump module. The fuel pump module and it's components are not servicable. They all get replaced as one unit.

Replacing the fuel pump is a little difficult in your application. You want one with a greater flow capacity than stock. I havn't looked for one, so I'm not sure if there is one.

Ideally, you want a pump that can supply a larger volume, with a seperate pressure regulater that can be indexed to boost pressure.

Keep in mind that these trucks use a returnless system. Aftermarket performance systems generally use a return line. They also use larger feed hose for a greater fuel volume. But with a good pump you can feed over 500hp with a -6 line.

I would contact one of the companies that specialize in performance Dakota's and see what they've done to solve this problem.
