 Subject: Difference between 1992 -93 Rack/Pinion

Hi there,
its about my 1993 Dakota 5.2 Magnum 2WD.
The Power Steering with Rack/Pinion is leaking out of the boot.
I ordered a OMEGA-Seal-Kit for a service, but it is difficult to find "how to s" about this job.
Only the little manual including an exploded view of the assembly has been attached in the kit too.
You could ask: Why don t you get a remanufaktured one, before breaking fingers or parts?
So, I am living in Germany, where getting parts from USA with core tax is a no-go for a private driver.
And buying a complete R/P at german dealers is like getting fuel at the pharmacy.
Now, I found a 1992 R/P from a 3.9 2WD Dakota at german ebay... what a good chance to the avoidance of redundant work... maybe.
Which R/P I can swap without any modification for a DAKOTA 1993 5.2, 2WD ?
For the 1993 Dakota R/P-Steering, the us-online-dealers differ in pre- and post "12. June 1993" - cars...
I don t know about it, so here is the VIN : 1B7GL23Y3PS169074
I asked Chrysler about that, mentioning the VIN of my car...
Great answer: "We regret to inform you that we are unable to provide a build sheet per
your request due to security issues regarding our customers and their
personal information. We hope you understand our position."
No, I do not ! Thank you too.
What could I do now?
Is the 1992 R/P the right one for my 1993 Dak?
Or is is to "old" because my Dak was built after Summer 1993?
Could I modify the R/P ?
Who knows?

Find your trucks build date on the drivers door there are 2 the easiest will be in MM/YY if it is 06/93 look for the line that says MDH for month-day-hour build. I show all racks 91-92-93 the same part#52006272 is the original part number. the racks are marked on a tag attached to the rack. the only change I remember that occured will all the racks on trucks and cars the made the body larger and changed the rubber insulator and bracket that mounts the pass side to the frame and the new rack wouldnt fit then they included the brkt &isolator in the rack pkg. As long as you truck is built before the june 93 date you should have no problem soak all the bolts with wd-40 or penetrating oil before you remove them the frame nuts are the weakest link and easy to strip

So,
I have got a good and two bad messages:
The good one first, the Door Label shows a MDH number.
The bad ones, related to the 1992 R/P from ebay.de, are,
that the MDH is: "110515 115",
and I can t find a tag on the R/P.
Now I must assume, that my Dak is a late one from 05. November 1993,
and the 1992 R/P does not fit, right?

A little addition...
the R/P is still mounted at the damaged 1992 Dakota.
If it is useful, then I could get the two Bolts and Insulators too.
Is that the way?

The letter "P" in your VIN Number shows its a 1993 model Vehicle so the MDH is NOV 5TH 3:00pm 1992 Vechicles are generally built from AUG of the previous year to july of that model year with a few exceptions but that is generally the rule so your 1993 truck was built from AUG 92 to July93 your door build bate should show 11/92 some where near the top of the label.

In the meantime I am convinced that my Dakota was built at 05.November 1992.
And therefore I will buy the 1992 R/P.
