I've visited the web sites that some people have listed that have a Throttle body mod, but Im a simple man and could barely understand exactly what this device does, and how to order it. The web site (primitive and not very friendly to use) gave me a little run around as to how to go about ordering one of these. I'm looking for someone that understands all this and has been through this before. Could you please tell me what this device will actually do, and give me a number where I can order it. At very least tell me what it does. Thank you for your time.

Check http://www.speedtweaks.net

Ask the technical help or ask for Bernd. He's the guru on V6. He's got a great personal website

http://lonestar.texas.net/~bernd/Dakota.htm

I hope Bernd doesn't mind that I provided his site. I can't tell you technically what the TB does. It is a control (throttle) device for amount air flowing into the engine with sensors on it. The v6 TB is 42mm and the V8 TB is 48mm (I think opening diameter). Typically, this is one of the sources of air bottle necking. I'm sure some one could give a better description.

Thanks for the info, I'll be sure to look into that. From what I understand you bought one of these Throttle body devices? If you did, easy was the installation? I have every automotive tool I could ever need, and the garage space to tinker with, but I'm not sure if I have the tech know-how. How difficult is this?

Mr. Sleepy,

Unfortunately, I can't afford V8 TB yet. Did alot of reading and advice from Bernd. I just installed a Gibson SS cat back exhaust and now the family needs to go on vacation. I did purchase a V8 throttle cable from Speedtweaks and plan to change my TB sometime in the fall. I know a website in TX that will sell a V8 TB for about $165 delivered. Need to also get a TB gasket. From all my readings, all the sensors can be easily switched to the new TB and changing the throttle cable is easy. The TB is held by four bolts. It doesn't seem hard. I do have the Dodge Service manual just in case. I'm sure there are plenty of people with way more experience than I that can give a more accurate response. (I'm just starting). Speedtweaks sells TBs for a V6 to V8 conversion or Flometrics Billet TB or Fastman TB. I haven't heard too many good things from Magnum Performance Inc. You could read one of the curent threads.

The throttle body is what sits on top of the engine where you would find the carburetor on older cars. It has butterfly valves inside which open as you press the accelerator. This lets the air into the engine and sensors determine an amount of fuel to inject based on this air flow. Replacing your stock throttle body with an aftermarket unit improves the efficiency of the air flow. This means more power, especially if you already have an aftermarket exhaust system or other performance modifications.

I bought a Flowmetrics Throttle Body from Speedtweaks. I am impressed with the performance gains and the construction of the unit. It is very easy to install. Anyone with a basic mechanical aptitude and some basic tools (ratchet, sockets, allen wrenches, torx drivers) can install the throttle body in under two hours. Mine came with very detailed instructions with photos. I can't speak for any of the other brand names, but I am very happy with my purchase. I wouod also reccommend Bernd's site (as mentioned in the above post) as I have had excellent luck and very good customer service from him.

Shawn
