misfire on bank 1
IP: Logged

Message:
Just wanted to share with any one else who runs
into this issue. My 01 dak which i just put a new
engine in was throwing the 300 301 303 305 codes
for random misfire and for misfire fires on
cyclinder 1 3 5, I finally found the issue when i
looked under the distrubitor cap. There was rub
marks on the under side of the cap and a groove
worn into top of the rotor on the back end. The
rotor was not sitting right on the shaft causing
the back end to rub the cap, angling the spark end
of the rotor down and away from the contact on the
cap and if the spark couldnt make the jump it
misfired. If i touched the rotor rub mark to the
rub on the cap, the cyclinders it pointed at were
1, 3, 5. I lightly sanded the rust off the shaft,
re set the rotor in place and tap it to make sure
it was as far down as possible. put everything
back together, warmed the truck up and went for a
test drive. No codes and smoother acceleration!!!
Dont discount the cap and rotor if you replaced
them. Mine were brand new as i did a tune up on
the motor before installing it (junk yard engine).

I have a 98 dakota that seems to miss in idle. Then when I hit
the gas it wants to stall and sometimes does stop all together.
New fuel pump and checked the lines/injectors which are all
good. Spark plugs the right gap and sparking. Any ideas as to
what it could be?
