Subject: OK final one about exhaust setup!!!

Hey guys,

Ive got a 3.9l 6 2000 quad cab... My OEM muffler finnally rusted out and I am in the market for a new one.
Ive heard alot about single exits and dual and about different brands.

Now my question is should I go with a single exit or dual or some other setup?

I really want this to be the determining post for me. Ive been reading way too much about how you lose low and top end with dual but then also heard thats not true...
Just confused and thanks in advanced for your inputs!

You shouldn't lose any top end with dual; and won't lose low end if the pipes are sized properly. Go too big on the pipe size though, and you will lose low end as you won't have good exhaust velocity for cylinder scavaging at the exhaust valves. That's the bottom line, although someone will often chime in with the mistaken notion that the problem is lack of backpressure. It all has to do with the velocity the exhaust pulse travels at. The same applies for proper sizing of a single set up. Which is the best choice can depend on how you use your truck. For example, since I tow, I chose the Gibson single sweptside system so I'm not directing exhaust at what I'm towing.

I also went with the gibson side swept on my Avalanche which i use as my tow vehicle. The kit was well engineered and bolted right up. It has a nice tone and is not that loud outside either. It felt like it helped power wise, however I cant confirm this as I have never had the truck to a dyno. The system is 3" single pipe to the muffler and then is dual 2 1/4" that exits just behind the passenger rear wheel. However after about 6 years of use I have noticed that the welds on the muffler are starting to rust I guess I should have went with the stainless option, but oh well you live you learn.
