I have a 96 dakota with a V6 and I want to put a performance exhaust on it, but I have a question. Can I have a turn down before the rear axle? I have asked a couple friends and the said they dont think there would be a problem because it is a truck, but if it were a car the fumes would leak back into the car. Is this true?

The mains issue to watch is making sure you dont direct
the hot exhaust onto components like the axle or brakes or gas tank.

Do you think the in cab noise would be real loud if the muffler isn't too loud. I was thinking of using a dynomax super turbo or one of the not so loud flomasters.

turndowns do amplify the noise, compared to the same muffler
exiting out the side or back of the truck.
You'll sometimes get an 'echo' between the ground and underside of the bed.

While idling or slow off-road driving, there a chance you'll smell
the exhaust fumes a lot more than before, reason why I dont like turndowns!

Have a turndown just after my Magnaflow muffler on my 99 R/T EC, no exhaust smell or vibration and not to loud. sounds great!
