Subject: Hose from intake box to valve covers
IP: Logged

Message:
Hey guy's I just bought an air intake for my 2006 3.7L Dakota and noticed the breather hoses going from the air box to the valve covers. I was wondering if I should just forget about installing the CAI since I would have to pull out the air box and the hose going to the valve covers would be exposed and most likely dripping water/oil from what I hear. Any info on what those hoses do and any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Hmmm, that crossed my mind before but I am not sure if that will invalidate the warranty my truck has.

That hose delivers clean, filtered air to the engine internals/crankcase to replace the air sucked out through the PCV valve. There's a vacuum at the hose.
Try it. Pull the hose from the air box while the engine is running and put your finger over the end of the hose. Vacuum. You do not want unfiltered air getting into there.
The intake system you bought should have a place to connect that hose. If not, then double-check that you got the right one.

Thank you for the response guys. The air intake I got was this one:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&viewitem=&item=220114634706

The guy said it fits 05-07 Daks but it is just a solid pipe which does not have an insert for the valve cover hose. I've sent him a message and we'll see what he says about that.
