Subject: traction bar ?
IP: Logged

Message:
hey guys, I have somewhat of a problem with traction on my 00 dakota quad-cab stock 4.7l no mods at all as of yet 2wd 5spd manual tranny 9.55 open case running uniroyal liberator 30x9.50,15lt. I get poor traction Both at the track and especialy when it rains here. So I was thinking of getting a set of traction bars, but wonder if they really work. Any help would be appreceated. Thanks in advanced.

As far as I have seen those traction bars are mainly for preventing wheel hop.. If your running an open differential a posi would greatly increase your traction when it is dry aswell as wet although your truck will have a tendancy to break traction in turns when its wet out, if you are nto careful and last but not least would be maybe try some different tires.. I run 245/45/17 Khumo AST tires and they are great in the rain even with my detroit locker, my stock 15" tires really sucked in the water and it was not fun driving with them at all... hope that helps good luck!

You need better tires. It really is that simple.

With a 4.7 and a 5sp, he needs more than a good set of tires! He needs a strong posi, locker would be better, and a set of Cal Tracs, or Competition Engineering Slide-A-Links.

Summit Racing has the Slide-A-Links, socaldakota.com has the CalTracs.

I have a set of CalTracs in the mail as I write this, should have them on my truck by next weekend, will let you know just how well they work then.

Get a posi unit, drop the air pressure down to 20/25 lbs and see what happens. As said before, bars are usually reserved for wheel hop.

Traction bars didn't do a thing for my truck's wheel hop thats why I'm getting the CalTracs. They are more like ladder bars then traction/slapper bars.

I have a 02 2wd 4.7l rc/sb with 4.56 gears and a Powertrax No-Slip locker. My truck wheel hops so bad it will actually unlock the locker sometimes.

thank you all for the info.I'll defenatly look into a posi locker and maybe while I'm there check out a set of gears hopefully some 3:93's or 4:10's. Then try to figure out what to put into the motor. it has 159785 miles on it, but it still runs strong. Do you all have any recommendations? Thanks again that was alot of help.Kota Kid please let me know how your truck runs with your set of CalTracs. Thanks again!

The rubber in your tires is to hard. you need tires with softer rubber and softer side walls.

IF... wheel hop is the problem,

Buy an inexpensive set of universal helper leaf springs, form any AutoZone, type auto parts.

Then, mount it in FRONT of the axle, not in the rear as the direstions state.

I have a 2001, 4.7, 5speed Quad Cab, LSD(posi) rear end, etc. It Stopped my wheel hop, for $19.95.
