First off I'm on my second dakota and have been very happy with both. The first was a 99 that I kept to 270,000 miles and my current one is a 2001 with 175,000 miles; never any engine or transimission troubles with either. Now my problem - I have an extended cab model and increasingly need to trasport 4 full size adults which isn't easy on the ones in the back seat. What kind of space does a Dakota quad cab have for adults in the back seat? I may need to go to a full size truck because of the small bed size in the quad cab Dak anyways. At this point it comes down to a Ram or Nissan Titan. Before you all blow a gasket used two wheel drive Titans with the big cab seem to be a very good buy and I like the space. Opinions, please?

I have an 03 quad cab dakota and fit two in back pretty comfortable. Granted the bed is smaller, but not by much since it's the biggest bed in it's class. I think Nissan had the option of a full size bed in thier crew cab Frontier but their crew cab still felt pretty tight in the rear seats. If the smaller bed was a serious issue, i'd move up to a Ram. Chrysler treated you right with your last two, why not a third.
The "lifetime warranty" doesn't hurt either.

My 04 Quad Cab (like Gretch said) has plenty of space for adults in the back. But if you are upgrading, go with the Ram.

Yeah dude, go with a Ram or new Tundra. The Nissan Titan is a piece of crap. It has a Dana 44 rearend that can't tow for schnit. There is a special towing procedure that you have to follow or you will break the rearend. The procedure says that you cannot tow more than 50mph for 500 miles. After that you run a risk of burning up the diff. Ever notice the finned diff cover they have? Thats to cool that little piece of junk down.

Go check out www.tundratruckz.com. You'll get a pretty good idea about the new Tundra. Pretty nice truck. Mine's a keeper.

Titans have one very weak point and 1hotkadota beat me to it, its the dana 44 rear end. My 2wd Dak has a bigger rear end then that! Titans have too much torque for that rear end, if it were in the back of a Wrangler or CJ or Cherokee or Tacoma. In other words that rear end in a smaller, lighter powered rig would be alright. I would deffinately say get a Ram.

Or if you can wait, go for the 2009 Ram. That thing is supposed to be kick ass!

Yah mon. They have to compete with Toyota's 381 hp now. I believe the new Hemi will probably push a little over 400 hp. I'm just anxious to see how much torque it has.

Wow if it comes out with anything close to 400 HP that would be a nice truck in a manual reg cab short box.

Thats a good question Kowalski. I certainly hope it comes in short bed. Long beds suck unless your a contractor.

A little bigger Hemi with disks all round RCSB 4x4 might have kept me in a Dodge. By the time you equiped one like the Tundra they stickered up to 35k this year with a 1350 payload and only 8500 towing. Dodge has to do better than that to compete these days.

Thanks for all the good input; since I usually buy used trucks and the new Tundra has been brought up what are the "older" Tundra's like. I don't do any towing but do sometimes put 1,200 to 1,500 in the bed.
Thanks again.

The Hemi will be going VVT unless they cannot get it to work out for them, but they should not have any problems. More power and better fuel economy.

Finally... a V8. '01 Dodge Dakota RC, 4.7, 5-speed, 3.92 LSD. = R/T Killer.
well at least a stock one

i keep telling you people and you dont listen
if you tow a lot buy a diesel
he11, buy an older one
you dont buy a cummins to trade it in at 100k, you buy one and keep it till the body and itirior rot off from it, the tranny has been replaced with an aftermarket and your grandkids are wondering if they can borrow it to move their furniture
1,000,000 miles on a cummins is not an isolated anomaly
there is a couple in my hometown that has 3 cummins, 2 of them with over 1,00,000 miles and an 03 with 750,000 miles
and the 16,000 towing capacity is more than you will ever need

1990 sport RC SB, 1995 318drivetrain, 3.92 gears (came with truck) Powertrax "traction system", 95 dash/steering wheel, hearthrob exhaust, headers, cutout after y-pipe, necessary electric fan add-a-leafs, 30x9.5 mud tires, cranked T-bars, AR 39 15x8 rims, grill guard, roll bars

That extra $7000 for a diesal is great if you tow alot and can use a huge pickup. I can't, I must be able to turn around in under 40 feet and paralell park in a normal space. Can't use a giant land cruiser nor do I want to drive one all the time. Nobody offers one in a short bed regular cab, period.

I believe you can get a RC 2500 Ram with the Cummins. I've seen one on Pinks, and I just saw one yesterday, although it was a long bed.

Donny:
Bag the idea of the old Tundra, I've heard they've had a few problems and, well I think they're kinda ugly, but they might prove functional for you if your not doing a lot of towing.

Sure, you definitely can get an RC longbed diesel Ram - but some of us prefer the short beds for lighter weight, easier parking, and the shorter turning radius. A rig that will turn tightly is more important than the diesel torque for some of us.
