i just cannot get traction off the line. Feathering the throttle is not cutting it when im racing.

The 50's spin like nothin, and i dont want to add weight, besides a spare and tonneau cover.

what should i do??

bfg makes some street legal slicks. DR radials i think. and lower the pressure. practice your launches. sounds like you haven't found the sweet spot yet.

Mickey Thompson, BFG, and Nitto all make well reviewed drag tires that are DoT/street legal. Of course, they don't last very long...

Check out the tire section at www.summitracing.com for some ideas.

Is your truck stock? I know that just about every R/T that I have seen launch, launch hard and do not spin. Sh!t, I can launch mine pretty good from a dead stop.

Finally... a V8. '01 Dodge Dakota RC, 4.7, 5-speed, 3.92 LSD. = R/T Killer.
well at least a stock one

_Gear_ needs to take a little time/ practice on launching his truck. flooring it from a dead stop isn't necessarily the best way to launch. especially a vehicle with a fair amount of low-end torque.

i heard the BFG legal slicks got baaad reviews, i'll check out nitto n stuff though and definatley the legendary MICKEYS lol

but anyways no my trucks not 'stock', i bought it about 3 months ago from a racing fanatic who bought it from a old mopar musclehead, all i know is that its got a large intake off some car, hypertech, oversized flowmaster exhaust, and the twin hoodscoop...but there could be more done to it, it almost sorta lopes like its got a bigger than stock but not a huge, cam...it kind of makes sense that its got a good little amount done to it because he said he ran a 8.8 1/8mile, and thats in TEXAS

anyways im not dumb and flooring it off the line or anything, i've done that and they spin till near 50mph, and i've broke the tires loose at speeds above 25mph. the rear end is just very light in mine(reg. cab with no spare).

i'd really like to know if it has a cam without rippin the thing apart though haha

I know that the R/Ts have more torque than me, but I was say that something is hard. I can make mine not spin much at all. I also have a 5-speed.

Start by checking the valve lift. Stock specs are kinda weak, IMO. Put a dial indicater on the push rod end of the rocker arm, and rotate the engine by hand. If it has more lift than stock, it's got an aftermarket cam.

Gear, hope you been practicing your launches. i'd hate to see one of those get a jump on ya. also, in street racing, never believe anything the competition tells you. just be wary and never ever let them know everything about your vehicle. good luck and PLEASE be careful out there. the life you could take may not be your own.
