That depends on what is already done to your truck. Mods work together as a combination, so you have to pick them to compliment each other. Let us know what you've already done to your truck, and we can tell you what the best way to make more power is.

You've got a good start with your mods. Since you are looking for more power for towing, I'd suggest going with parts that are going to help your low end torque, rather than horsepower. Opening up the exhaust often times results in a loss of torque. For the mods you have now, and what you want to do with your truck, I wouldn't suggest going with anything other than stock right now. The intake side of the engine tends to be where the bottleneck is to start with. I'd look for a slightly bigger throttle body. Depending on how far you want to take it you could have the intake manifold ported and flow tested. After that your truck would be ready for some exhaust.

There are a few things you can do cheaply to make sure you are getting the most power your engine can make right now. Starting with a good set of plug wires, a brass cap and rotor, and a 180* thermostat. You can do all of that for about $100.

If you do decide to go ahead with the exhaust, don't open it up too much right now. A high flow cat and performance muffler would be great for you. Its too early for dual exhaust to give you much performance gain, but it does sound nice. You wouldn't really be hurting anything by getting duals if you did it right. About 2 1/4 inch probably. It might cost you some low end, but you'd still be able to tow your boat and it'd sound real good.

If you were going for horsepower, of if you decide you want to go in a different direction with your truck, my suggestions would be different. I hope this helps and good luck.

The best exhaust mod you could do for towing with your 4.7 is probably replacing the y-pipe with a better flowing one. The 4.7 loves more spark advance; got a custom flash for mine - but a lot of guys report good results with Superchips. Might need premium for towing, I did when I had the stock gears. HO cams would be good for a bit more torque as well. No plug wires, cap or rotor with the 4.7; coil on plug design.

Lead, follow, or get out of the way

Good call with the coil on plug design kowalski, I forgot the 4.7 used that. HO cams are a great idea too. Its a little more expensive of a mod and obviously not a "bolt on" but you'll probably see the best gains from that.

By far the best mod is to do the gears (esp. if you have 3.55's), no mod will come closer to doing what you want than 4.10 gears.
