 Subject: Best Gears for a 03 Quad Cab 4x4

I'm looking to get some better acceleration, keep decent gas mileage and tow my 1200lb popup with my 03 quad cab 4x4 4.7 with 5spd auto open diff 3.55 gears . I only tow once in a while ...but like to be able to take off in a hurry n beat that ricer...lol
Also what is the size of the front diff ?

If you have "normal" sized tires going to a 3.92 will probably do you the best. If your tires are a little larger than stock go with 4.10s. If they are much larger you can go with 4.56s.
The front diff is a 205mm. Randy's Ring and Pinion and Drivetrain Specialists (there are others) can help you out with purchasing choices.
If you want to beat that annoying ricer just remember that your truck weighs 2x what his weighs. You'll need more than just gear help to put him where he belongs. Better competition: take turns hooking up to your trailer and time a 1/4 mile run. :-)

Go to accuautoparts.com thats the best place I've found online. They've got all the stuff including gear oil and lsd additive you will need at good prices. I also ditto those guys go for the 4.10s

Per GraphiteDak who did this same gear swap about 18 months ago: buy the full install kits for the front and rear axles. You will save a lot of aggravation by not needing to run around to get the parts you need that are not in the smaller install kits.
Also, not knowing what your mechanic skills and experience level are... pay to have this done unless you are quite adept at automotive repair, and have the correct tools for differentials, and have the proper installation instructions. A wrong install can quickly ruin the gears.

I went from 3.55 to 4.10's and my gas mileage got better. Love this ratio.
Nothing flows like a straight pipe

I would love to change my 3.55's to 4.10's, I just lack sufficient funds. I also have a 4x4 4.7L QC.

Keep in mind you need a master install kit for each axle. And you've got a 9.25 rear axle, not an 8.25. I'd expect to spend $750 to $1000 for installation in our area. That probably seems high in a lot of parts of the country but that's what they get around here.
