Sh!t, more than that. It will take a built motor, a big ass supercharger, hella traction, and a built transmission. Probably around $10-$12 thousand.

Finally... a V8. '01 Dodge Dakota RC, 4.7, 5-speed, 3.92 LSD. = R/T Killer.

daddios got it. but if someone asks this question and is serious... you can bet they just watch fast and the furious alot and think it dosent take that much to make a 10 sec car. and you can bet he isnt really going to do anything to his truck that we say.

14.3 in the quarter mile? With what mods? I know not stock because mine would not do that stock nor would an R/T. Oh yeah and there is a big difference between 14.3 and 12.3. Club cabs do not do as well as regular cabs. You would spend 5k is went for a supercharger around 4k on the motor alone. If you plan to beat on it 5k for a good transmission. 1200 for someone to put a fast in and to tune it. It keeps going and going.

drivetrain transplant- BUICK 231cu.in.V6 StageII w/ about 30+ #'s boost should do it.

if you're serious there are some drag race simulations online that will help calculate what hp you'll need to get into the 12's.

like the old man says, fast, cheap, reliable - pick 2 because you can't have all 3.

I would not but a GNX motor in a Dakota. Keep that in the GNXs. Man were those things bad though.

Wow... I never knew that Hotchkis had a 3/4 drop.... Maybe because they don't. What kind of cams? HO? 206? 212? 212x? 218? 224? New computer? That means what? I can go and get a new computer and it will not help me for sh!t. Do you mean custom flash? Who did the flash for you? Heads ported and polished? Who did that for you? Motor rebuilt? Why? They are pretty stout motors. Did you even put anything into the short block?

Duner from AZ has a CC turbo'd 4.7/ manual tranny that runs low 12's. No mention of $$$, however.

Jason from KRC has a '00 RC 2WD supercharged, 4.7 5-speed Dakota. It runs I believe right at 19 psi. It has a fully built motor and all custom work and tuning done at KRC. It is a mean truck. I think his best time was a low 13. He said though that they are still tuning on it. Said that it did not run right.

01Motorsport, I was gonna say a Turbo like Duner's CC would do it for under $10k

I think his ORIGINAL home brew setup was under $2k and he was in the 12's with a home brew water to air intercooler.
The last time I watched he ran like a 12.7 or so. He had 12.5 at Firebird. He's been playing with his turbo's 360 R/T the most lately so don't know what's up with his 4.7 CC these days.

@ gnarly nads, Turbo is better but not by all that much.

@ Alan, First of all you have the wrong motor to be making that kind of power. Duner was a special case and I cant believe that a 4.7 would take that kind of stress for very long.

Cheapest reliable way to get a dakota into the 12s is gonna be to get an R/T.

Pull engine, install a nice large cam, drop in some forged pistons, some nice light head porting if your any good at that, add some nice headers, m1 intake, 55 mm TB, 3,000 stall converter, 150 - 200 shot of nitrous. You could skip the $800 nitrous setup and go with a $5000 Supercharger instead. Your choice.
Have you ever driven a vehicle that fast? My built firebird is hard enough to drive on the street I could not imagine trying to use it as a daily driver in the rain/snow. It would be even worse in truck with that kind of power and terrible weight distribution.
