Whats the best (least expensive) way or ways to increase acceleration and power on a 5.2 V8 - it's currently in a 99 Ext. Cab.???

gears. typically stock gearing is 3.55:1. change that to 4.11:1. better acceleration, more towing power.

If you want more power and acceleration, trade it in on a sports car.
It's a pickup, dammit.

First thing to do is reprogram the computer with Jet or Hypertech - or whatever you like. Best bang for the buck going.

After that, change the rear gear ratio.

I have the FIPK2 K&N intake, and a magnaflow muffler(no other exhaust yet)... it seems like i have PLENTY of top end... in other words, once i get the beast going, its compareable to a mild v8 mustang, but straight off the line a mustang would get me by like 8 lengths....

I just need more umph behind the truck when i want to accelerate. looking for an inexpensive way to do it, not worried about mileage, but also at the same time i dont want anything that will drastically cut mileage 3-5 more less...

Things i have heard/thought about

Throttle body spacer ?>> heard this doesnt work.
superchips programmer, or hypertech (expensive)
race wires/plugs/cap and rotor...
also, was told i should look into like a 50ish shot of nitrous, but very concerned about a motor with stock internals....

only 2 things on your list will help acceleration.

suprechips, not by much
50 shot of nitrous.stock internals can handle that if the nitrous is setup properly. not really risky but could get expensive refilling that bottle.

i still say gears are best bang for the buck to get you off the line. and will probably not hit your mileage as bad as you think depending on your driving habits. i.e. city versus hwy driving.

Throttle body spacer: doesn't work.

Race ignition parts: won't help (long story)

Computer tuner: In the big picture, fairly cheap. This is a must do if you're looking for any kind of performance increase. Bite the bullet and do it.

Gears: Higher gear ratio (like 3.92) will apply more torque to the ground. That's what you need tog et you moving.

Nitrous: A 50-75hp shot won't damage your stock engine. BUT, nitrous should only be used at or near full throttle. If you're drag racing, that's fine. If you're just driving to work, or towing a trailer, it's not. And you have to keep refilling the bottle.
