I just order an MSD 6a box, coil, tach adapter, new wires, cap and rotor. Wondering if anyone has any experience with installing this thing. Is it simple, and tips or suggestions? Thanks

Yeah I installed a 6A on my '91 3.9L was pretty simple to wire it so long as you ahve connectors and such, really the hardest part for me was figuring out where i wanted to mount the unit, I have an aftermarket tach as it is, but the factory one on mine worked fine aswell thou mine is a little older and has less electronics, but for the most part was silly easy install it basically goes between your coil input and the coil

Biggest problem is your going to be disappointed if your looking for performance from the MSD. Little better idle for some and maybe smother when you punch the pedal down. You need some pretty good mods to make use of an MSD. It will shorten the time between tuneups . Maybe you have some serious mods.

Well, i plan on slowly adding on to mod my 3.9. Next i'll go with the throttle body, and after that some rockers. I just cant afford to do it all at once, i would if i could. Does it really not help performance that much? What about milage? Thanks

Your biggest gain if any will be if your in dire need of this tuneup. Save the MSD for the last installation in your tuneup. Drive it a day or 2 and then put it on . it's the only way your going to know what's real. Good luck.

OBIO3 is right on the money the MSD on its own really doesn't give you any gains but it will enhance the gains from various other mods such as cold-air, exhaust, headers, throttle body, etc... from my experience after I first installed the MSD I felt a noticeable difference in power, course the ole' right foot dyno isnt all that accurate ;) if anything else you can be resassured you have an ignition system better than that of most cars on the road do. i installed mine for power and overal smoother engine running and the satisfaction of having an MSD

I dont see much of a reason as to why you'd have to take out your chip basically all the MSD does is hooks up to your positive and negitive coil wires and then gives new output positive and negitive coil wires that you hook back up on the coil, it should not effect your timing or anything, there are units and setups that you can get where the MSD box controlls your timing curve but the 6A does not just gives you multiple sparks

Well i increased my mpg from about 16.4 to 19.7 with just the msd and coil and wires... and tune up. I wasnt in that much need for a tune up, and it made a crisper response and accelleration. It didnt need the proclaimed tach adapter, so i got my money back on that deal...
