This is a direct bolt in to the factory e-fan mounts on '00+ trucks. Uses a SPAL 16" variable speed fan. You will need to use the SPAL FAN-PWM module to make use of the variable speed function of the fan. I have on installed on my truck and it works great. No problems with cooling and it rarely has to use the high speed to keep the truck sitting on the 180 degree t-stat temp.

Why, oh why,

would I want to remove my factory stock electric fan? Which works great, is the only fan my 4.7 has had for years, to put this expensive fan on?

I lost that belt driven clutch and fan years ago.

What am I missing here?

WHy would you want this?? Because it cools 100X better than your stock fan could ever cool. I ran with just my stock e-fan for years as well, but when the temps got above 95 degrees outside and I wanted to run my A/.C, it wouldn't keep it cool. Plus, unless you turn on the A/C or defrost, the stock e-fan doesn't turn on until your truck reaches 212 degrees, which is way to warm for these motors. With this fan, even with the A/C on, it never gets above 200 degrees in traffic.

If you are happy with your stock fan, then don't bother and stop replying to this thread. This is meant for those who need better cooling than the stock fan can offer, and is an alternative to the only other "bolt in" fan kit available for our trucks.

Then do that, but it won't be a direct bolt in, and then you still have to buy the high amp relays, figuring out how you want to wire it up, and if you want to use both speeds or not, and figure out how you are going to mount it in, plus ditching the stock fan shroud and buying a new radiator overlfow, and if you want to have a washer fluid resevior, buying one of those and re-locating that. I love it when people have no idea what they are getting themselves into with trying to get the Viper fan to work on their own. Then realizing after the fact that it was a bigger PITA then they thought.

So why you trying to bust up my group buy on a quality custom fan?? I'm just stating the facts since I've seen what goes into the Viper fan kits sold by Socaldakota. It's not something the average person is going to be able to do. This fan set up is about as bolt in as you can get for an aftermarket fan. You hook up power and ground to the battery, one wire to stock temp sensor, one wire to A/C clutch. There is a connector on the fan controller that fits the one that comes on the fan itself. Then you start the truck, and program in your fan turn on points. Takes longer to take the factory stuff apart, then to install and get this fan operating. Plus, you get to keep your stock fanshroud/washer fluid resevior/radiator overflow that you can't use with the Viper fan. But then again, you obviously know more about this than me. No expensive high amp relays/fuses to buy, and 100X simpler wiring.

HSKR,

I may have been a little harsh, sorry.

I also have a manual tranny on my 4.7, with

a 180 degree t-stat. I live in hot Southeast TX, and tow my catamaran sailing boat frequently. I have no problems with the temp.

However, I understand that some do, and you are trying to do something positive for fellow Dak owners.

I hope you get the #'s. I'm sure all in all, it's worth it.
