If you have a high volume pump, you need to be running a high volume pan, like 7-8 quarts. A stock pan will get sucked dry and bad things will happen to your new engine. A new high volume pan should have a matching high volume pick up.

Run the hi-vol pump with a stock distributor shaft and you'll eventually twist the tip off.

If your bigger pan didn't come with a pick up, go back and buy the one that matches your pan. The stock one won't work. Be sure and check clearance at the bottom of the pan.
