I just got off the phone with the guys at Crane, and they will take your cams, add to them and regrind for 289.00 Thats both cams for 289.00 and they have several cam specs. in the system that can be ran on stock comp. Also can do more but you will have to flash your comp. Call them and check it out. Thats the same price as HO cams and you can set them up for towing, mid range, he said tell them what your doing and they will hook it up. 386-258-6174 Tech Line

Wow that would be pretty nice.
I heared that sometimes you cant get the exact specs you want out of reground cores. I may be wrong though since I have never had a cam reground.

I called KRC Performance and the cams you get from them are ground by Crane. They are jerking us off with a 400+ dollar profit. Thanks KRC

Are the cams we get from KRC reground or are they ground from brand new unground cams. If they are just regrinding them it would have been nice if we could have returned our stock cores for some cash back.

Anybody know the stock cam specs or the H.O. specs

I checked this for myself and KRC said they get core cams. From where I do not know. But they do not give you a core exchange for yours, they just get the cores from somewhere and send them to Crane Cams to be ground. Crane or any other cam MFG adds metal, welding or building up the lobes, and then grind them back down to your specs. It is done a lot with cams. And they perform the same.
Here are the HO cams spec. go to www.buymopar.com

4.7 cam spec.
intake
opens (BTDC) 3.0'
closes (ATDC) 233.0'
duration 236.0'
exhaust
opens (BTDC) 235.0'
closes (ATDC) 15.0'
duration 250.0'
valve overlap 18.0'
valve lift
intake 12.00mm (0.4724 in.)
exhaust 10.90mm (0.4292 in.)

Interesting. KRCs kits say they come with machined lash caps. What exactly do they do to them? Im thinking I may be able to do this machining myself if its not to complicated.

Im going to have to call them tommorow to see what their cam specs that work with the stock computer are.

Im wondering if I could get away with .5in intake and 4.85in exhaust with the stock springs. Maybe even open the exhaust a bit earlier for the nitrous. Looks like im getting new cams this spring.

I had heard they didn't actually add metal to the lobes, but ground the existing profile; and then the lash caps were used to make up the difference for what they want the lift to really be. I guess someone would have to physically compare their stock lobes to the height of a reground lobe to lay this discrepancy to rest. I'm tending to believe what I heard before; as that would be the simpler machining process - unless someone can report they've measured a reground lobe as taller.

I called Crane again. Your right Kowalski. They just grind them down to your specs. So anyway. The price is right though if you can do with out your truck for a week or two and send your cams off to them. I think its a hell of a deal for basically 300 dollars for both cams.

Better plan: buy some used ones and have them reground. That way the truck is not down any longer than the time for the swap...

Travis - thanks for the confirmation.

modain - excellent suggestion.

If anyone is seriously considering this, I still have my original 4.7 cams (swapped in HO years ago). Will ship anywhere in the continental US for $40. Then you could probably recoup the $$ from the next guy who wants to do this, once you're done. If anyone is interested just post your e-mail and I'll get in touch.

So KRC Says the cost is higher there cause they send in a pair of HO cams and crane cams can get better numbers out of the HO cams. Kowalski, you just want the 40 for shipping and nothing else? How many miles on them. travair@hotmail.com

Yup, I live out in the sticks, basically just looking to cover the shipping and the minor hassle of taking them somewhere to send out. I think I had around 20,000 when I swapped. Not sure exactly, but I remember it was still before my warranty was up. I'm sure Crane can tell you if they can grind what you want with a stock cam, if your concerned about KRC's claim. All businesses are out to turn a profit...

You could include shipping address with payment if you want to keep your info confidential. We're expecting a foot of snow today, so the earliest I could ship is probably Monday.

I bought my HO cams, new, for $53 dollars each!! I think that was in 2002 though. I swapped them when they had about 20,000 miles.

I too still have my brand new looking cams wrapped in a rag in my garage.

I'll sell them cheap also, and ship them too.

My e-mail is under the envelope.

I also have my stock cams. Sh*t. I actually have TWO sets of stock cams since I have an extra 4.7 engine :)

Anyway. I was wondering if they could regrind a set of my STOCK cams to the 212 specs? I eventually may want to go more radical on the cams. Especially because my truck rarely runs below 2,000 RPM's anymore :p

According to Krc, the stock cams don't have the correct demensions for doing anything over H.O. grinds on them. You would have to start with the H.O. cams if you wanted to get them ground on your own. Then you also need the lash caps. Just a headsup for anybody thinking of doing it.

ok here is the low down on reground cams they usually do not add or weld anything to them unless the lobe os worn out, they regring the profiles of the cams to a diffent spec, this is the reason you will need different lash caps they are longer because the base circle of the cam is lower now from the regring
