I am going with the NGK v-power plugs for my 3.7 L. Does this sound like a good plan? Also, the book calls to replace the spark plugs every 30K miles...is this necessary?

LARRY J&J uses them and swears by them. I use Champion truck plugs and I swear by them. Some use autolite and swear by them. Point is, seems everybody has the best plug no matter what there using. Some plugs seem to do better then others in the same engines. I believe this fact has more to do with the rest of the ignition system. As far as when to change them, 30,000 isn't unreasonable. Plugs are considered in good condition until the electrodes start to round off the edges. Spark likes good sharp edges to jump from. most plugs start to show this wear at 10,000 miles not including platinum plugs . of the regular metal plugs autolites wear the longest due to having the hardest metal. Champion plugs have the shortest life with the softest metal. Nobody knows why plugs work as they do for sure but it's excepted that each time a plug fires, the spark ripes a piece of metal off both electrodes resulting in the rounded edges in time. It is also excepted that the softer the metal the better the plug fires under carbon or oil burning conditions. they also give the least amount of miss fires (all plugs have miss fires from day one). This is my reason for picking Champion truck plugs along with good reliability and smooth idling. I'm not telling you what to buy. I'm telling you my choice and why. This is one area where there are a lot of opinions.
