I saw a guy at the drag strip last year that had a 440 in an early Dakota and he was running the Hooker A-body fenderwell headers and I remember commenting to my cousin at the time that they fit the application pretty well. They seem to pop up at most mopar swap meets for a couple of hundred bucks or less.

Headers should be tuned for what you do. 6,000 RPM racing headers will be a pain in commute traffic.
My experience is with Gibson for my 3.9. They say their system is tuned for the way you drive, on the street. Sure worked for me.

unfortunatly Gibson doesnt offer a header for this swap nor does any other manufacturer other than Schumacher Creative Services. The old hooker A body fenderwell headers came in 2 sizes,1 7/8 and 2 inch, the smaller of which will work fine on the street with a 400+ cubic inch motor. Not to mention due to the popularity of this swap this header design was offered by a number of different manufacturers back in the day, some even with 1 5/8 primaries.I doubt that with the limited number of people doing the 440 Dakota swap that there will ever be a commercialy built header for this application by anyone other than Schumacher.By the way,I have used some of Schumachers stuff and even though its a little pricey it is definatly top quality and well thought out stuff. The people that work there are also very customer oriented and helpful.Good luck
