go ask the ford ranger board. this is the dodge dakota board, just because our trucks are better than yours doesnt mean we're going to help you.

Best to read the 50/50 fine print and see if it states that you should not use with aluminum radiators.

as much as i hate fords, what it probably means is not to use any additives, like water wetter. every radiator needs water and antifreeze, im sure it wont hurt it.

Ryan, no need to be rude. Did it ever dawn on you that the guy may also own a Dakota? The topic is aluminum radiators and not Dodge vs. Ford.

Most antifreeze is about 95% ethylene glycol by weight, with the remainder being corrosion inhibitors and other additives. Time and heat eventually deplete the protective additives, leaving the system vulnerable to internal corrosion. Aluminum radiators don't seem to be any more vulnerable to corrosion that brass and copper. Actually some think it is less vulnerable. Bottom line is that you should change coolant at the recomended intrevals which is usually around two years. Long-life antifreeze is ok but don't mix it with conventional or you completely lose its effectiveness.

I agree there should be no problem running regular or long life . Just the same make sure the anti-freeze you do use does not say it can not be used with aluminum. I don't recall seeing this on any of them but safe is safe. With aluminum you can't use regular screws/bolts or anything else that is common metal. One thing coming to mind is the radiator Cap. It needs to be copper, brass or stainless steel. if you use any other metals, the aluminum will eat away on you. Guys mounting things on aluminum boats get into trouble with this one often.
