glasspacks sound awesome on a 4.7 and you do not feel the power loss. It is such a small amount of HP loss, that your ass is not going to feel it. Gicson is overpriced and I personally think that they are not worth the money.

I would go for a turbo style muffler such as the Walker Dynomax Super Turbo if it is available. If you want noise put on some Thrush mufflers that have been around forever. I'm speaking of the cylinder shaped model. Then there is always Flowmaster.

The only thing I did not like about the glasspack on my 02 4.7 was the resonanace that I got at about 2K rpm. An hour or more on the highway and it was quite annoying, not to mention that it resonatated at a frequency that seemed to cancel out my sub.

I ended up changing it to a Magnaflow. Much more of a glasspack sound to it.

2.5 thru glass pack will not reduce your power. For all practical purposes it is the same as a straight piece of 2.5 pipe. Only two reason I can see for not likely them and that is the cheap ones rust out and they are too loud.

However, a straight thru glass pack does not have to be loud. I have JBA 3" stainless exhaust and it is straight thru, glass packed and reasonably quiet. It can be installed backwards if you want it louder. It will probably last the life of the truck or ten cheap glass packs so it is also cost effective.

Glasspacks can be awesome. In loudness nothing can touch them except a straight pipe.
Many EXPENSIVE mufflers are just a glass pack style straight through design with extra padding and a bigger body. So why pay for them rip off mufllers?

I think the GOOD Glass packs were directional and quieter until you really got the RPM's up there where as most of the cheaper ones, liek the Cherry Bombs I used recently, have the baffle grooves inside aimed both ways so you can install it without being backwards! But they may be a little louder at cruise because of it.

I had Glass Packs when I first went true duals. They were loud as sh*t. Set of alarms at a distance, scared the kiddies in the honda's, etc. But on the highway for 3 hours towing a load they got annoying. So I went with a pair of Flowmatser 40 series.
I miss the glass packs when I want to tear some a$$ around town.
I think the true dual 2 1/2" exhaust is why mine was so loud compared to say someone splits a single into fake duals.

here's some old sound samples I made.

Duals with glass packs ---> http://www.paysonarizona.net/mp3's/Dak_122605_Duals_01_SoundSample.mp2

And the dual Flowmaster 40 series ---> http://www.paysonarizona.net/mp3's/DualFlowStepOnItALittle.mp3

I miss them sometimes. But the Flowmaster's sound good too being on such large pipes.

All about personal preference. I own 2 dakotas, one for street and one for off road 4x4. Personally i love the sound of glasspacks albeit my dakotas are both 360 base motors stroked to 408s instead of the 4.7. Due to a lot of complaints you may get, i suggest Flowmaster 40 series depending on your area.
Dont forget to keep in consideration "noise pollution"

Yeah. His $500 Mustang (he purchased from my hillbilly friend before he moved away) sounds really good with the exhaust we put on it.

His Chebby neighbor keeps coming over when we start it up when working on it. He said it sounds really good.
We think he wants to race his Camero against it.

We still have no idea what all has been done to that 302 in there. Need to run it I guess.
