I have a set of stainless steel Gibson headers waiting to be installed, for a 1999 3.9l 2wd.
Do you think I should use Header Heat Wrap on them or just let them be?
I have been reading a LOT of bad things about header wraps.
Has anyone had a bad experience with this stuff?
It says it will void my warranty and deteriorate the headers faster.
Can anyone confirm this?

I am sure someone around here has had a real life experience with Wrapping the Headers.

has anyone heard of Jet Hot coating company?
It would be like $195 + s&h to and from for the silver coating finish inside and out.
Is this worth it?

I put header wrap on a set of Thorley chromed headers and it was a bad mistake. Yes it did reduce the under hood temperatures, but it also rotted out the headers after several years. I wouldn't do the header wrap on a street vehicle, race car yes because of reduced under hood temps and working around cherry hot headers is worth the trade-off.

There may be a big difference between wrapping mild steel headers and stainless steel headers. It is also easier to get by with wrapping headers if you live in the southwest than say a place like Washington state where it is wet and humid. Wrap absorbs and traps moisture. In either case it is a waste of money for most people.

Yeah Josh I could totaly tell that was a sales pitch, I have already saw that site as I was browsing for info on pros/cons of header wraps.
I just thought that ceramic coatings repotedly work well, so this jet coating stuf might be the same or better than ceramic. It would look nice though, it says it comes in a few different colors, but I just really want to protect my investment is my long term goal. I really dont feel like buying another set of headers in 2 years or less.

DSW yeah shes not a racecar or a racetruck for that matter, today she isn't anyways. So working around cherry hot headers is worth the trade-off, for haveing the headers last a while. To tell you the truth though I really dont spend a whole lot of time under the hood except for cleaning it up a bit, I save the under the hood work for the Professionals. That way I know I can point the finger at them and they will have to fix what they screwed up.

Header wrapping will do two good things: reduce underhood temps, increase exhasut gas scavanging. Unfortunatly, they also do two bad things: trap heat in the metal, trap moisture on the metal. It's a trade off. If you wrap your headers, they won't last as long.

Ceramic coating does a multitude of good things: lowers underhood temps, increases exhasut gas scavanging, and keeps heat and moisture out of the base metal. You'll make more power, and the headers will last longer.

I've used Jet Hot Coatings for a couple of projects, they do good work.

Alright thanks guys. Now I know a little more about coatins today than I did yesterday. So which one is better I'm thinking the jet hot with a blue color or the ceramic coating. Which is better?

I believe all the jet hot coatings are ceramic. Probably the MC-15 would be the best comprimise between performance and cost.

Check localy, there may be a shop in your area that does it, I know there is in mine. Will save on the S&H.
Jet Hot is ceramic, and it will work well and no issues with corrosion, or tarnish. ever.

I live in the desert, Phoenix, Las Vegas, and the headers were showing signs of rust within a few years, after 6-7 years I was fixing holes with a mig welder. This was on a V-8 S-10 that I was racing, so initially it looked like a good idea, after the truck was demoted to towing the boat to the lake it became a bad idea.

Thanks, DSW, you proved my point. 6-7 years is a very long time compared to other parts of the country where the may not last even one year when they are wrapped. Whether it is water from a lake or rain, they don't mix well with wrapped headers. You can even have problems in Death Valley if you spray them down with water everyday.

Still haven't heard from anyone with wrapped stainless headers.
