Hi fellow Dakota owners. I have a question that I can never get a straight answer from anyone. I currently have P255/60/17 tires and rims that were straight from the factory on my 04 dak. Now these dam tires are so dam hard to find its pathetic. I do not have the R/T but they are the same rims but the the R/T comes with 255/55/17. I know it shouldn't be a problem going to the R/T size tire would it? It will lower the truck a bit but every different person says something different, like oh no you can't go down to 55, it will mess up your computer and braking and blah blah blah, then someone else says yeah it should be ok.
Would someone with a stock dakota with 17 inch wheels please let me in on what tires are ok and if I should go down from 60's to 55's and maybe give me an idea what the maximum I can change to?

Thanks in advance.

looks like the 60's are 1 in taller than the 55's.

go for the Nitto 275/50/17. these tires are 28" diameter instead of 29" like wat u have but they are also about an inch wider and have a real nice tread pattern. i have these on my r/t and they are real nice and much better than stock r/t tires.

Your speedometer will be off, but you can get a dealer to hook up there scan tool and reset your computer for the new tire size.
