What would be the best and toughest for the 8 1/4 differential ? Is the Mopar Performance Sure-Grip gonna hold up if im burnin some rubber? would it be better with a powertrax or detroit locker?

Each choice has pluises and minues. The LSD is easy on the street, inexpensive, and will last a reasonable amount of time.

A locker can be noisy, and slightly erratic on ice and snow in the corners. High speed track cars don't use them because they tend to cause the car to be loose in the corners. They are great for off roading.

The best (IMO) is a worm gear drive like Torsion or Detroit Tru-Trak. A little more expensive, bullet proof, smooth operation, and just about indestructable. Very smooth in a high speed corner.

Lock Right by Power Trax is a popular chice. It's inexpensive, and can be installed by the average mechanic in the driveway; no special set up tools needed. Many off roaders swear by them.

There are also better limited slip options than stock - Auburn would be one.

Lead, follow, or get out of the way

Well , LSD's are doing their job but it seems that when you do some burnouts the clutches are already burnt and thats not what i want. Will The Lockers last way longer than the LSD's or its gonna strip out after some burnouts?? I never heard a lot about performance LSD's too but i want something thats gonna hold up.

Depends on what you want. If you drive this casually everyday and dont abuse it too much than A LSD would be a good choice. If your planning on burning rubber ALOT, and axle breaking launches than you want a locker. The LSD will wear out over time. A locker usually tends to launch straiter as well.

Come on, give the guy some info!
An LSD is just that, limited slip. In other words it will allow one rear wheel to move faster than the other, but only a limited amount. Great for acelerating in a corner because you want the outside tire to be moving faster than the inside tire. Not so great for drag racing style launches. It doesn't launch as straight because one back tire is getting more torque than the other and the differential doesn't do enough to try and keep them equal.
A locker is also what it's name implies. It actually locks both back axels together under high accelration. Now if your accelerating through a turn that's a bad thing.Making both back tires turn at the same speed in a corner means one MUST break loose.
However, in a drag style launch it mimics a solid rear axel or what we called a 'spool' back when I was racing. A spool is a solid hunk of steel that replaces your planatary gears. You bolt your ring gear to it, slide the axels into both sides and your ready for straight, front-wheels-off-the-ground launches. You don't want to try much of a corner with a spool though. pure drag strip stuff. Not safe on the street. Lockers are noisy when cornering because they are trying to lock both axels together while they are turning at different speeds. An LSD's clutch does this well. With a locker it's like trying to shift a manual tranny without first depressing the clutch (clunky to say the least).
I hope this helps.
Hey .boB, what is a worm gear drive as relates to a differential. I'm familier with what a worm gear drive is in general engineering terms, but in a passenger car's pumpkin? This goes in an existing axel housing without any major modifications? I've seen worm drive diffs on heavy equipment, but the drive shaft enters the housing at either the top or the bottom instead of more centered on the axel like with a ring and pinion. Completely different stresses on the bearings and housing. besides, what does worm drive vs ring-and-pinion have to do with traction? Very curious.
