split fires are junk, so are the rest of the plugs on the market that say they give better spark. Run a quality plug like champion or autolite. If you do your homework on the igition systems you'll find that the stuff that split fire tries to sell you on won't do anything for better performance. Make a good inspection of your system and all it's parts--coil--distributor--wires--plugs--cap--rotor-- anyone of those parts that you even think might be on it's way out you should replace. Remember it's called the IGITION SYSTEM because every part has an important part to play. If one is bad then the rest suffers.

Truck Guy,

You know NOTHING about a 4.7 engine.

There are NO wires, cap, rotor, etc.!!!

Josh,

Please, oh Please,
DYNO BEFORE AND AFTER THE HEADERS ON A 4.7.
PLEASE, PLEASE.

I did some research, and headers are one mod
I will NOT do to my 4.7, that already puts out
over 265hp, and over 360ft/lbs of torque at the crank. Normally aspirated, and never had the heads off, or motor out of the truck.

Very few in here can make platnum plugs run proper. They have very low resistance and alow arc over to soon providing a week spark. Lots run autolites and sware by them. I run champion truck plugs. they perform terrific especially if the rest of your ignition system is in top condition. At the least, stick with a normal plug. Split fire plugs came out many many years ago. They advertised heavy and charged plenty and sold well till the guys figured out they was throwing there money away. Now as of late there making another run on the public. They got an all new generation to toy with that thay can fool at least long enough to make millions all over again.

So many problems .... So little time

Has anyone ran the new E3 spark plugs on our dakotas yet? Ive ran Bosch +2's and +4's they are pretty good, but the Autolites that everyone suggests for our trucks were nothing but problems when i had them in mine.

526,000 miles on the 3.9 Dakota alone.
I've used various plugs.
Splitfires for a long while until I noticed there was no MPG improvement.
For much of that mileage I had a Jacobs Pro-Street Electronic Ignition. Worked best (as I would immigine a MSG would be) using el-cheap-o Autolite copper plugs. Mechanic installed Platinum plugs when he did the valve job. Almost didn't run, the Jacobs disliked them so much (see Obio3's comments).
truck guy makes a critical point; it is an ignition system. The guys who designed your engine have a bunch of initials after the comma following their names, and likely a lot of years plying their craft. That is why you don't have points and condensers and rotors and distributor caps and shaft gears to wear and seals to leak. You have a state of the art ignition system.
You might play with brands, and keep super accurate mileage logs, then, report back.

Thank you for all the sugetions guys I think I will go with the stock plug champ. I dont excpect big gains from the headers maybe at high rpm The Super chip took care of the low end rpms for me love it I do think the Gibson 3 inch side swept will give me a few more low end Rpms designed for 4x4 and towing. And i will be replacing the stock Y pipe.

Hey Todd Sails, that's my bad. I own a 99 5.2 and I based my advice on that. The point I was tring to make is alot of the plugs on the market today make claimes that are bull$hit. And that doin your homework before you spend any money will be better for the motor as well as your pocket. So if I offened any of the 4.7 guys I'm sorry. As for Todd thanks for keeping me in check--I looked up the ignition system for the 4.7's and got myself up to speed. One good thing about this site is if you screw up there's always someone to call you on it so you don't make the same mistake again.

I've used Bosch Platinum 4418 +4's on my '01 4.7 for 120k miles with good success. The '92 5.2 I once had used +4's as well. Since DC doesn't use thread compound on the factory plugs, 30-35k is a good time for first removal. That's about the life of Champion plugs anyway....
